Utada Hikaru Divorced

Posted in Japan, Music by Elliott Back on March 3rd, 2007.

Utada Hikaru just got divorced. She writes about it (in translation by Hikki):

Yesterday, on March 2nd, I, Utada Hikaru, and Kiriya Kazuaki, officially divorced.

To all the people who have supported us until now, we would like to thank you very much. Our apologies for surprising you with the short notice. We believe that both of us have learned so much and grown up with the 4-year and a half marriage. While we mutually keep changing, a perception gap on the direction of the future and concept of marriage has gradually emerged between us. The lack of communication in our life, passing each other while both are working internationally, is one big reason as well.

“Though divorce is a pity, it was good that we have met each other” – that is what we talked. As an creator and a dear friend, we hope we can continue watching the growth of each other. I am looking forward to following Kiriya-kun’s career in the future.

It’s a pretty mild divorce–probably the result of her growing musical ambition and her husband’s divergent movie career.  It’s hard to stay together when you’re not in the same business.

  1. [...] My favorite Asian musician Utada Hikaru divorced last week. I’ve got a chance! [...]

      Crazy!

What Utada mentioned as the reason for divorce is not enough to understand the underlying issues for seperation. More of a P.R response!

Utada marriage served its purpose. So now *** girls are off the list for true and intimate marriage.

I am italian and its important to understand that love will diminish over time as tranferred to a feeling of monotonous expression. Romance is the glue that will bind you forever. I suppose the romance become monotonous also. Asian guys tend to not express their feelings.

Maybe the bed romance did not ‘measure up’ and Utada is keen to experiment with something more ‘fulfilling’

anyway. its your life! liv it up.

Don’t know what your on about. But asian guys can be as romantic and expressive as any western or european guys out there. JEEZ. Generalise much??? And by the way…it’s not “***”, it’s Japanese thank you.

and Yeah us Italians always yappin about our little linguine. Asian guys dont talk much? ever been to a chinese restaurant?

And its the other way around Love is the glue that binds, romance is what will inevitably diminish; if not of boredom or physical impudence.

Another comment out of context for a chance of expressing his hate and jelousy, thank you Chris.
