Lake in Chinese
I just learned the Chinese word for lake which I think is absolutely gorgeous:
? – hu2
The character (??) is composed of a water radical (?) and the tonal combination ? (hu2) which is ?? (ten mouths) and ? (moon). Of course, the ? part is just for the sound, and the meaning itself comes from ?. For some reason, I really like this character…
